Calligraphy is the art of making beautiful letters with tools that were once used for writing: a quill, particularly a goose quill, or a calamus (carved reed).
Here, we'll use the automatic pen, a tool that's easier to use than the quill.
The apprentice copyists trace the letters that interest them (letters of their first name, of a historical figure) following the "ductus", the numbered arrows that run from top to bottom. They try their hand at full and loose strokes. At the end of the session, on a more qualitative sheet of paper, participants write the chosen word or initials. They add motifs, collages (flowers,
feathers...) to embellish their work!
